Youjin Um, a talented jewelry and object artist from Seoul, Korea, has carved a niche for herself in the world of contemporary art. She cherishes the natural qualities of cold metals, particularly the vibrant and clear hues of silver, which stand out in her creations. Her process begins with detailed drawings, followed by crafting paper models to better visualize her ideas. She then transfers these designs onto silver plates, meticulously piercing and expressing each element. This careful and thoughtful process not only results in beautiful jewelry but also brings Youjin personal satisfaction and peace.
Throughout her illustrious career, Youjin has garnered numerous accolades, showcasing her unique pieces at various prestigious exhibitions worldwide. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Jewelry Design in 2017 from Hong-ik University in Seoul, enhancing her knowledge and expertise in metal jewelry design. Her work reflects a deep understanding of materials and a passion for exploring hexagonal structures. These structures often inspire her designs, as documented in her master's thesis. Youjin's dedication to her craft is evident in her participation in many international competitions and exhibitions, where she has been recognized as a formidable talent. Her journey in art reflects not just a profession but a lifelong pursuit of beauty, healing, and happiness through creation.
