Pop Warner Spirit Teams have been on football field sidelines for decades (Pep Squads and Majorettes). Cheerleading wasn't introduced officially until the 1970s.
Pop Warner Cheerleading & Dance Teams are made up of thousands of young people in the United States.
The Cheer and Dancing Program provides a variety of opportunities for young athletes with varying skill levels, including Novices, Intermediates and Advanced.
Pop Warner, in conjunction with JAMZ (the Pop Warner Education Development Partner and original developer of Youth Cheer and Dance Alliance) has developed a set of spirit guidelines.
Pop Warner, in partnership with YCADA is able provide online courses to its coaches, administrators, and judges regarding the team skill levels of Cheer Teams (Core, Show, PW 1-4), and Dance Teams (Pom Performances, Theme Dances, & Hip Hop). Pop Warner offers Sideline Performance Cheer as an additional competition.
Pop Warner Coaching Staff offers basic instruction, training, and conditioning for football games and competitions.
The teams will be on the sidelines for all home games and the majority of away games up to the Pop Warner Super Bowl. Teams participate in spirit competitions (League, Region) and Game Day.
Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championships, which began in 1988, are now held at the Orange County Convention Center located in Orlando.
