The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources released a Roadmap that outlines the development and transition of high-efficiency, Mercury-free lamps in Indonesia. The Roadmap's objectives are in line with the proposed amendment to Minamata Convention on Mercury. It proposes to phase out almost all fluorescent bulbs containing mercury globally by 2025.
The roadmap outlines an action plan for the phase-out of fluorescent lighting products containing mercury by 2025. It also aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 36 millions tonnes, and mercury emissions by about 125 kilograms (2019-2035). The research conducted by CLASP - a leading voice for appliance efficiency policies, market acceleration initiatives and a resource on the international level - and local partners was largely responsible for its development. By 2026, household penetration will reach 19.2%. Revenue growth is projected to be 20.64% (CAGR from 2022-2026), resulting in an estimated market volume of US$41.30m. The market share for local and high efficiency lamps in the professional sector will increase from 12% to 19% by 2025. This is followed by 50% in 2030 and 75% in 2020.
